Human Relationships

Image
Watching this video, it makes me realize that everyone does have a tendency to help others. Even if we are not related to them. I always catch myself doing small gestures for others even if I don't know them. Like translating for someone when they don't speak English. I think we all have this kind gene within us. That no matter who we are, we have that kindness. It is fascinating that we evolved to be kind, like it is engraved in us now. I think a reason we like being kind to be others is because we feel good at the end. Like, "Oh, I just did this good deed for someone else and that makes me feel good." Our brains like that feeling so much, that we tend to repeat that behavior. It is  repetitive behavior.  I found an article that talks about why they humans do good deeds. It states, "When we help strangers (or animals), there must always be some benefit to us, even if we're not aware of it. Altruism makes us feel food about ourselves, it makes other people ...

Step Inside the Circle video

Every time someone took a step, you realize that most of them went through trauma experiences throughout their childhood. I think why people end up incarcerated is because they try to fill that void that wasn't filled in their childhood. I think that's also the reason why people tend to stay in toxic relationships. Because that toxicity, verbal abuse, etc., feels so familiar. It's upsetting that people through that over and over. Childhood trauma is real. Childhood shapes us to the person we are today. It damages people or helps them. Some people become successful despite their trauma while others suffer through life. So many of those men in that prison went through similar experiences. I hope that it brought them closer together instead if just pushing those feelings down. It is so important that people take the time to heal together. It helps with personal growth and will make people feel free in a way.

Why are people racist? Video

The way he speaks was so elegant and polite. The story he told about a woman shouting from her apartment is cruel. I will never understand how people think that it is okay to yell a slue towards someone. She felt so entitled to it that she had to yell it out. And to use the phrase "you people", tells me everything I need to know about her. He explained racism so well. I am glad he spoke about his personal experiences about racism because people need to realize it still exists. People just tend to embed it more into society so it is "normalized." Everyone deserves to be treated the same no matter what race we are. Race plays a huge part in our identity because it is the first thing people notice about us. They either judge us because of it or accept us as who we are.

This is Who You Are Youtube Video

This video was moving. His analogy about light bulbs made it really clear that we are all the same underneath. That no matter what size, shape, or color these light bulbs are, they all have engird coursing through it. With us, we all bleed the same and have the same energy running through us. I liked his example about Jim being in the hospital. How his body is still here but we know that Jim was way more than his body. That the energy he had carried throughout the body. That that's what made him Jim. His energy. Not his gender, race, or sexual orientation. It was Jim's energy. A lot of minorities are judged based on their appearance and that unfortunately, makes them targets. They are seen as a threat. We are all the same underneath skin. His quote, "We are intelligent, creative, universal energy. And if we understood that, then we would finally know what wise men and women have been trying to tell us since the dawn of time. That we are one." People need to think mor...

Cult presentation

I found it interesting how this presentation group compared political leaders and cult leaders. I like how they brought up tactics that political leaders use as in, making promises, propaganda, and targeting certain groups. Brining up what propaganda is a good reminder how much it is engraved in our society. With advertising, through social media, speeches, etc. It definitely had negative and positive impacts. It can be used negatively to try to get people to follow that propaganda. People tend to believe anything they see in the media these days, especially the younger generations and the older generations. An example I can think of is when a hispanic news channel put out a story saying that AirPods cause cancer. With no evidence to back this theory up, hispanic parents were tricked into this. It can definitely influence people to do things or follow someone. In a way, both political and cult leaders brainwash people for their own gain. I like how they did a comparison chart....

Jim Jones Documentary

The documentary is surrounding Jim Jones. Jim Jones was a man who was a political activist. People in the documentary said that he would mesmerize people. He was very outspoken about social justices. Gender, race, etc. People loved him and were fascinated by him. Peoples Temple was very loved by society. He opened medical clinics, rehabilitation center, etc. He would have people fake a disability at events. He was tricking people with this. Jones would have someone sit in a wheelchair and would command her to stand, walk, and run. Making people believe he could heal others. This caused more people to show up to events wanting to be healed by him. It's weird how far someone will go in order to have validation from others. He definitely gives off creep feelings. He seems sick in the head. Hearing his laugh just made it all the more disturbing. It's so creepy how Jim Jones would pretend to kill people. His whole demeanor just changed out of nowhere. You can totally tell he finally...

Death Row Presentation

A question that was brought up in the presentation was "To what extent is the death penalty justified?"  Some said that criminals should live with the guilt and consciousness of what they did. Someone brought up a point on how anyone can claim they have mental health issues to basically not have as harsh of a punishment as they should. People who commit these crimes are definitely aware of what they did.  But some people who are on the death penalty have been accused of a crime. A young boy has convicted of the murder of two white girls. They put the little boy in the electric chair and took his life away. It was not until years later that they found out this boy was innocent. It is just really sad that law enforcement do not have enough evidence attires and just want someone to put the blame on. This group brought in the types of serial killers which I thought was interesting because I didn't know there were categories that killers were put in. Visionary: Believes that ...
