Death Row Presentation
A question that was brought up in the presentation was "To what extent is the death penalty justified?"
Some said that criminals should live with the guilt and consciousness of what they did. Someone brought up a point on how anyone can claim they have mental health issues to basically not have as harsh of a punishment as they should. People who commit these crimes are definitely aware of what they did.
But some people who are on the death penalty have been accused of a crime. A young boy has convicted of the murder of two white girls. They put the little boy in the electric chair and took his life away. It was not until years later that they found out this boy was innocent. It is just really sad that law enforcement do not have enough evidence attires and just want someone to put the blame on.
This group brought in the types of serial killers which I thought was interesting because I didn't know there were categories that killers were put in.
Visionary: Believes that a person or entity is commanding him kill.
Mission oriented: organized/plan crimes, doesn't suffer from psychosis, targets specific groups, kills quick, avoids close combat
Hedonistic: commits his acts for his own personal pleasure, subcategories include lust, thrilling, and comfort
Lust killer: usually rapes, tortures, and multilates to give sexual gratification. Fantasize violence and have difficulty controlling impulse.
I do not have a set opinion on death row. So many innocent people have been convicted of heinous crime they did not do. They are then sentenced to the death row. I always think about that young boy who was put to death because of something he did not do. It is just really scary all together.
