Human Relationships
Watching this video, it makes me realize that everyone does have a tendency to help others. Even if we are not related to them. I always catch myself doing small gestures for others even if I don't know them. Like translating for someone when they don't speak English. I think we all have this kind gene within us. That no matter who we are, we have that kindness. It is fascinating that we evolved to be kind, like it is engraved in us now. I think a reason we like being kind to be others is because we feel good at the end. Like, "Oh, I just did this good deed for someone else and that makes me feel good." Our brains like that feeling so much, that we tend to repeat that behavior. It is repetitive behavior.
I found an article that talks about why they humans do good deeds. It states, "When we help strangers (or animals), there must always be some benefit to us, even if we're not aware of it. Altruism makes us feel food about ourselves, it makes other people respect us more.."
Another interesting quote I found is from the same article. It basically says that we think if we do a good deed for someone, that we will get that same help in return when we need it. I think that is so true because I took my little sisters out to Build-a-Bear. If you know this place, you know that it is crazy expensive. The total came out to 102 for two bears plus their clothes. I was 12 dollars short. My little sister offered to give up the clothes on her stuffed animal so the total can come down. But the cashier said that it is no problem that she can pay it herself. I was in awe because this total stranger just offered to pay the rest of the total. I kept asking her if she was sure about that over and over. She reassured me that it was completely okay. How God and people helped her out when she was in need, so she's paying that help forward.
"Or perhaps altruism is an investment strategy- we do good deeds to others in the hope that they will return the favor some day, when we are in need."
