Jim Jones Documentary

The documentary is surrounding Jim Jones. Jim Jones was a man who was a political activist. People in the documentary said that he would mesmerize people. He was very outspoken about social justices. Gender, race, etc. People loved him and were fascinated by him. Peoples Temple was very loved by society. He opened medical clinics, rehabilitation center, etc. He would have people fake a disability at events. He was tricking people with this. Jones would have someone sit in a wheelchair and would command her to stand, walk, and run. Making people believe he could heal others. This caused more people to show up to events wanting to be healed by him. It's weird how far someone will go in order to have validation from others. He definitely gives off creep feelings. He seems sick in the head. Hearing his laugh just made it all the more disturbing. It's so creepy how Jim Jones would pretend to kill people. His whole demeanor just changed out of nowhere. You can totally tell he finally...

Death Row Presentation

A question that was brought up in the presentation was "To what extent is the death penalty justified?"  Some said that criminals should live with the guilt and consciousness of what they did. Someone brought up a point on how anyone can claim they have mental health issues to basically not have as harsh of a punishment as they should. People who commit these crimes are definitely aware of what they did.  But some people who are on the death penalty have been accused of a crime. A young boy has convicted of the murder of two white girls. They put the little boy in the electric chair and took his life away. It was not until years later that they found out this boy was innocent. It is just really sad that law enforcement do not have enough evidence attires and just want someone to put the blame on. This group brought in the types of serial killers which I thought was interesting because I didn't know there were categories that killers were put in. Visionary: Believes that ...

Death Penalty Documentary

It is hard to believe that the United States still enforces the death penalty. You would think that the "best country in the world" would have gotten rid of this way of execution a long time ago. People across the United States are split on this matter. Some support and want the U.S. to keep enforcing the death penalty. Whereas the other half want to get rid if it once and for all. A lot of protests have been made by both sides.  In the documentary, one of the families who were affected by the bombing were told to show up to the trial of the bombers. The wife of a victim noticed his hand when he entered the court room, and thought to herself that she hopes that his injury hurts. That she hopes he is in a lot of pain. Another family who was effected by a murder, wanted the them dead. The mother was angry and was really enforcing the death penalty. I find it really interesting how when you are personally affected by something horrific, your views can switch. Watching from afar,...

Environmental Justice Presentation

Image
What are some ways you have seen environmental justice connect with race and poverty? Factories, machines, etc., are always placed near the low income neighborhoods. It goes to show that people do not care about their health and intentionally place these buildings near them. It is such a huge risk increase with lung cancer, respiratory problems, and other health issues.  I really like how to was brought up during the presentation of how having those fancy cars, is deep rooted into "masculinity." How the revving the engine is seen as cool and tough.  They see electric or "normal" cars as weak. People want to have an image portrayed of themselves to everyone else. As a student said, Americans tend to over consume things.  In wealthier neighbors/communities, their  surrounding are more green. Meaning they have green access. The air quality is better, there are no factories near by, everyone probably has an electric car. Whereas in minority communities, the air qua...
